Meet Chef Pietro Mosconi, Chef and owner of Monte’s Trattoria on our Central Village/ Soho Tour!

MUST EAT ITEM: If Pietro could, he would indulge in lobster, mussels and steak daily, but lately has been opting for lighter options like salad, in particular caesar salad with just the right amount of dressing.

Pietro immigrated from the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy with his family in 1966. In 1976, the family opened Villa Mosconi a block down from Monte’s and in 1983 purchased Monte’s as well. Monte’s is the real deal if you are looking for classic New York Italian food. The menu covers all of the popular Italian recipes you are looking for when visiting New York. Per Pietro’s recommendations I created the perfect 3 course meal:

The baked artichokes are their #1 seller and were so fresh and delicious.

Can’t get much more classic Italian than with Monte’s lasagna with béchamel sauce…

The perfect finish, tiramisu!

WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW: With an already extensive menu there is no end to the dishes Pietro and his staff can make. Monte’s opened in 1918 and has a very loyal following. But that doesn’t mean they don’t keep up with food trends and customer satisfaction is their number one priority. Pietro says if they put everything on the menu that they can make the staff would go crazy. The pasta menu alone is open to possibilities, choose your pasta (even gluten free varieties) and your sauce, and there you have a perfect meal just for you. Recently, this Northern Italian restaurant had a special request for the southern pomodoro sauce, of course they improvised and served it to their guest with the addition of prosciutto… add prosciutto to anything and I am totally on board!
