Well hello there! Thanks for dropping by. This is the shiny new and improved Foods of New York Tours blog. We’ve done the blog thing before, and if you check out our archives, you’ll find all kinds of tasty morsels and recommendations: best places to check out in Chinatown, official recommendations from our New York Food Experts on the best places to take a date, etc.

But we’re starting a new tradition. My name is Helena (that’s “huh-LAY-nuh” since I know you were wondering), and every Wednesday afternoon I’ll be bringing you behind the scenes of Foods of New York Tours. Wondering how we find new places to feature on the tour? Or what your favorite tour guide does for fun in his down time? Maybe you’re looking for tips on other great places to check out next time you’re in the neighborhood, or you just want a chance to participate in fun contests to win future tour tickets. If any of that is true, or if you just like food and/or New York (and really, who doesn’t?) then you are in the right place.

Introductions All Around

For our first post here, I’ll briefly introduce myself. Every once in a while, we’ll have guest posts by some of the many fascinating individuals behind Foods of New York Tours, but for the most part I’ll be your online guide.

Helena, of Foods of New York Tours, adventuring in San Francisco
What should you know about me? Well. I’ve always loved eating (especially desserts) and have had a true passion for New York City since I was a kid, but only recently have I discovered that I also actually really care about food. Thoroughly enjoying a chocolate souffle or a grilled cheese sandwich is not quite the same as understanding the craft of choosing the ingredients, of building it, of discovering the possibilities in the ways of recrafting it to make it even better. Don’t get me wrong; I’m still not too crazy about actually cooking (where I tend to fail more often than I succeed). But the crafting of food… this is a new love that I can’t wait to continue exploring with you.
Oh also — and I promise I’ll try not to talk about this too much — I really, really love chocolate milk.

So chime in! Let me know what you’d like to hear about. We’ve got our finger on the pulse of food in New York City, and we want to share our wisdom. I can’t wait for us to get to know each other better.
